Argentina: General Strike Announced Against Labour Reform Bill
Argentina’s main labour union, the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), has announced a general strike on 19 February against the labour reforms proposed by President Javier Milei. The strike coincides with the debate regarding the reform bill in the Chamber of Deputies. The bill, which includes measures to limit workers’ right to strike and extend working hours, was backed by the country’s Senate last week. Trade unions have criticized the bill, stating that it would roll back measures to protect workers. The general strike is expected to be joined by various transport unions, which is likely to cause significant travel disruptions, particularly in Buenos Aires.
