Tarique Rahman was sworn in as Bangladesh’s new prime minister after the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) led coalition won a majority of seats in the parliamentary elections conducted on 12 February. He is the first prime minister to be appointed since the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina following a student-led protest in 2024. PM Rahman takes over from the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus. Other politicians were also sworn in as members of the parliament. The new government now faces key challenges, including restoring stability and addressing the country’s economic issues.
