Storm Nils caused torrential rainfall and gusty winds in various parts of France over the past few days, resulting in widespread damage, flooding, and one casualty. On 12 February, around 900,000 homes in western France faced power outages due to the storm. Authorities began operations to restore power, but around 450,000 homes remain without power as of the early hours of 13 February. Winds of up to 100 mph were recorded near France’s south-west coast. 40 roads in the Aude region were declared impassable due to the gusty winds. As of 13 February, the storm has moved away from France, but a new rain system is forecast to cause heavy rainfall in the upcoming days.
