Flight Operations Disrupted Due to Cold Weather in Finland

Severe cold weather in Lapland, Finland, triggered the cancellation of multiple flights from Kittila airport over the past few days, stranding thousands of travellers. The temperature on 11 January remained below -35 degrees Celsius, and temperatures are expected to be as low as -39 degrees Celsius on 12 January. Extreme cold makes de-icing planes difficult and freezes maintenance and refuelling equipment. Additionally, authorities have warned of icy conditions in the regions, which have made travelling on roads hazardous.
