Central African Republic President Touadera Wins Re-Election
Central African Republic incumbent President Faustin-Archange Touadera has secured an outright majority in the presidential elections held on 28 December. President Touadera, who has held the position since 2016, was able to run for a third term after a constitutional referendum in 2023 removed the presidential term limit. The major opposition coalition had boycotted the elections, and two opposition candidates have contested the results, stating election fraud and an unequal political environment. President Touadera’s government has denied the allegations of fraud. The Constitutional Court has until 20 January to resolve any challenges and declare a definitive result.
