Germany: Arson Attack on Berlin’s Power Grid Leaves Thousands Without Power
A suspected arson attack on 03 January near the Lichterfelde heat and power station in Berlin left around 45,000 households without electricity due to damage to high-voltage power lines. Authorities described the attack as a politically motivated attack by extremist groups and have begun investigations. The Vulkangruppe (Volcano Group), an activist group, claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that they targeted the fossil fuel economy. The power outage has also caused disruptions to internet connection and heating amid low temperatures. Power has been restored in some areas; however, complete reconnection of power to all customers would take until 08 January.
