China’s military, including air, navy and rocket troops, conducted a joint military exercise around Taiwan on 29 November, with China warning against ‘separatist’ forces and external interference. In response, Taiwan’s Defence Ministry has stated that it has launched rapid response exercises and forces are on high alert in preparation for a possible escalation. The military drills follow recent diplomatic tensions, including an arms sale deal between the United States and Taiwan, which China condemned, stating that it undermined its sovereignty.
