US, Mexico Sign New Agreement to Address Tijuana River Sewage Crisis

Tijuana River Sewage Crisis
The United States and Mexico signed a new bilateral agreement to resolve the decades-long flow of raw sewage into the San Diego area through the Tijuana River. The agreement requires new infrastructure, enhanced monitoring, and long-term operations and maintenance (O&M) planning to accommodate Tijuana city’s future population growth. Additionally, Mexico committed to constructing the Tecolote-La Gloria Wastewater Treatment Plant by December 2028 and a sediment basin in Matadero Canyon.
