Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn has approved Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s petition to dissolve the parliament, paving the way for an early election. The decision comes amid the border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia and a potential no-confidence motion. PM Anutin was elected in September with the backing of the People’s Party on the condition that he would dissolve the parliament in January. However, a dispute between PM Anutin’s Bhumjaithai Party and the People’s Party led the latter to withdraw its support. The decision risks increased political instability and delays in parliamentary decisions.
