DRC: UNICEF Declares Worst Cholera Outbreak in 25 Years
The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has declared that the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is facing its worst cholera outbreak in 25 years. As per UNICEF’s report, over 64,000 cases and 1,800 deaths were reported since January, with around 23 percent of the infections involving children. The outbreak has worsened due to underfunding of rapid response operations, inadequate water supply and sanitation services, and the ongoing conflict in the country.
