Tensions have further escalated between Thailand and Cambodia after cross-border firings were reported across the border between Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province and Cambodia’s Banteay Meanchey on 12 November. Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet said that the firing has led to three civilians being injured and one casualty. The clash followed a pause in the ceasefire deal (signed in October) by Thailand on 10 November, when a Thai soldier was injured at the border in a landmine explosion. The recent increase in border tensions poses an immediate security risk for local populations and a challenge to regional stability.
