Peru: Anti-Government Protests Turn Deadly Amid Political Instability
On 16 October, one civilian was killed and more than 100 people, including 80 police officers, were injured during widespread anti-government protests in Lima. The youth-led demonstrations demand the resignation of President José Jerí, who assumed office days earlier following the impeachment of his predecessor, reflecting public frustration over political corruption, weak security measures, and rising crime. The government said a state of emergency will be declared in the capital, Lima. The ongoing political instability and civil unrest pose a high risk of disruption to business operations particularly in the capital, requiring enhanced security and contingency planning for personnel and assets.
