Flooding and Landslides in Mexico
Torrential rains, attributed to Tropical Storms Priscilla and Raymond, have caused widespread landslides and flooding across five Mexican states, with the death toll rising to at least 44 people as of 12 October. The hardest-hit states include Veracruz (18 fatalities), Hidalgo (16), and Puebla (09). Critical infrastructure is compromised, with thousands of residents lacking water and electricity, and numerous communities becoming isolated due to road closures. The Mexican government, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, has activated an emergency response plan involving the army to conduct rescue operations and restore essential services, indicating severe disruption to logistics and regional stability.
