France's President Macron to Appoint New Prime Minister
On 08 October, the Élysée Palace announced that President Emmanuel Macron will appoint a new Prime Minister by 10 October, following the resignation of Sébastien Lecornu, the third in a year. France’s political stalemate began after snap elections in July 2024, leaving no party with a majority and blocking key legislation, including the annual budget. Lecornu and his predecessors struggled to tackle France’s crippling national debt. The move temporarily eases pressure for snap elections demanded by opposition parties. Persistent instability in France threatens economic stability, risks market volatility, and may complicate international policy coordination.
