Israel and Hamas Agree to First Phase of Trump Peace Plan
On 08 October, Israel and Hamas agreed to the “first phase” of President Donald Trump’s peace plan following indirect talks in Egypt. The final ceasefire details have yet to be released. This phase should halt hostilities, release remaining Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, and see a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. Announced a day after the two-year anniversary of the Hamas attack that triggered Israel’s offensive, the deal marks a key step toward ending the conflict. The timing for the next phase and the implementation of the plan’s 20 points is yet to be seen.
