Youth-Led Protests Turn Violent in Morocco
On 30 September, youth-led protests in Morocco turned violent. Protesters are demanding reforms for better education and healthcare services. The demonstrations were organised online by a loosely formed, anonymous youth group calling itself “GenZ 212,” using social media platforms. Rioting erupted in cities such as Inzegane and Oujda, with stone-throwing, vandalism, and vehicles set ablaze. Authorities have made dozens of arrests. The unrest poses immediate security and operational risks. The government coalition issued a statement on Tuesday expressing willingness to engage in dialogue with youth “within institutions and public spaces to find realistic solutions.”
