Iran and E3 Nations Hold Critical Talks to Avert Sanctions
On 22 September, Iran and the E3 (France, Germany, and the UK) engaged in talks in New York to avert the reimposition of United Nations sanctions. The E3 initiated the 30-day “snapback” process on 28 August, accusing Tehran of non-compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal. The European powers have offered to delay sanctions for up to six months, contingent on Iran restoring access for UN nuclear inspectors and addressing its enriched uranium stockpile. Iranian officials maintain that Tehran will not yield to pressure, stating that the time has come for the West to choose between “cooperation or confrontation.”
