Protests in the Philippines
On 21 September, tens of thousands of people protested in the Philippines due to allegations of government corruption and the alleged misuse of funds intended for flood control projects. The protests were motivated by issues caused by monsoon rains, and an independent commission has been established to investigate the allegations. The police have so far arrested 49 people. The demonstrations took place on the anniversary of the imposition of martial law by former dictator Ferdinand Marcos, the current president’s father.
