Poland Shoots Down Russian Drones Violating Airspace
On 09 September, the Polish military shot down Russian drones that had violated its airspace during an attack on Ukraine. Poland’s armed forces described the incident as “an act of aggression.” The breach prompted the scrambling of Polish and NATO jets and led to the temporary closure of four airports, including Warsaw Chopin. As a NATO member, Poland is covered under Article 5, which states that an attack on one ally is considered an attack on all. The development has heightened security concerns and risks of further escalation between Russia and NATO.
