India: Punjab Floods Hit All 23 Districts, Crops and Lives Impacted
The Punjab government, on 02 September, declared all 23 districts flood-hit following incessant rains and overflowing rivers. The disaster has claimed 30 lives and affected more than 350,000 people, while over 148,000 hectares of crops have been damaged. The widespread flooding has triggered large-scale rescue and relief operations by national and state disaster response forces, the Army, Air Force, and BSF. Experts point to climate change, with erratic and uneven rainfall worsening India’s flood risks. The crisis poses significant challenges, including infrastructure damage and supply chain disruptions.
