Intense Monsoon Floods Create Havoc in Pakistan
Flash floods and landslides from intense monsoon rains have caused a rising death toll across Pakistan. The National Disaster Management Authority reports at least 657 deaths nationwide since late June, with the northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province worst affected. Unofficial reports indicate fatalities in the province alone could exceed 1,000, as entire villages have been wiped out. The NDMA warns of more rainfall and “cloudbursts,” threatening flood-prone regions. A critical humanitarian situation persists, with rescue operations hampered.
